Rootsy Vybration

I bid everyone greetings and blessings in the name of the Most High Jah Ras Tafar-I! Once again, we look Far-ward to sharing some positive vibrations with all of you who have supported our humble collective in the past! Last year was stellar for Gato’s Gullah Gumbo as it turned out to be our busiest and most exposed yet, as we finally played The Barking Spider, as well as making appearances during Downtown Cleveland’s “Beat’s & Eat’s” and “Food-Truck Friday’s” summer concert series! All of these events, plus our appearance at The Cleveland Museum Of Arts’ Annual Chalk-Festival are credited to then drummer and former Mo Mojo Singer/Saxaphonist, etc., Davidione C. Pearl, whose tenacity at finding gigs is nothing short of inspiring! Brother Davidione is now Daddy Long-Legs and has put together his own group of awesome musicians and we look Far-ward to doing a show with them in the very near future! In the meantime, Brother Marlon Hatcher, B.K.A. “Rasta Foote”, a veteran Reggae drummer whose seasoning only makes this gumbo so much spicier, has been blessing us with his presence and expertise and critical road knowledge, and, I&I believes that we are all the better for it! When we open, this coming Friday night (April 10) at The Grog Shop for “New Kingston” and “Arise Roots”, you will hear a more “Rootsy” sound to our overall vybration, which allows numerous percussive “free” exchanges between Dpontoes’ bass melodies and Rasta Foote’s” tremendous snare-drum stylings! While we don’t intend to be as busy as we were last year, we do want to spend more time in the studio and maybe even do a couple of low-budget videos! We are hosting our very first event as a band as “Touchfest” will occur at The Bevy In Birdtown, formerly “The Winchester”, on Sunday, October 18th from 12pm until 6pm. The tremendously talented “Umojah Nation” will open and Gato’s Gullah Gumbo will play until 6pm. There will be Irie vendors, Sista Queen and Brother Red Strype and details are not quite complete as I&I has a few other things possibly in the works for this celebration of the birth of Peter Tosh, A.K.A., “Peter Touch”! So we are excited about the potential of this becoming an annual event and look Far-Ward to many more! Also, for those who may not have heard, Little Wing, Jen, has accepted my marriage proposal and we are looking to have the wedding on August 22nd, 2015 at the Rockefeller Greenhouse, one of our favorite East-Side locations! We plan on having the reception at my Sister and Mom’s house, just down the road immediately afterwards and Umojah Nation will be the Wedding Band! Our friends, fellow musicians The Troubadours Of Divine Bliss will Bliss us by doing us the honor of officiating the actual wedding ceremony, and performing the wedding march, one of their many angelic songs! We will be making an appearance at Pickled Peppers in Geneva-On-The-Lake and that is always a fun gig! There are a few others on th schedule and I&I is working on a few more, but I fully expect a bit of a down-turn this year, after such a wonderfully busy last year. So we hope that you all can come on out to The Grog Shop this Friday night and check us out! Our opening set will be short, and to the point, probably 45 minutes and we plan to take the stage at about 9pm! New Kingston has a #1 rated Billboard disc and is heating up the National Reggae Scene during this outstanding musical tour with Arise Roots, whose Reggae stylings are noteworthy also! We’ll see ya’ll there! One Love! Jah Watches!
